Audio . . . Take One

Aidan and I out for a walk October 29, 2022

I didn’t expect recording a poem would be such a challenge.

With my son’s sound engineering, we took a first step on the road to recording audiobooks of my poetry. With no recording equipment, it was like diving headfirst into the deep end. Would I enjoy the process of recording an audiobook? Are the results worthwhile?

Aidan gave me a much-needed push by downloading software to record the audio and we were off to the races recording takes of the poem “Bayview Beachhouse” off my upcoming book The Tale of Indigo.

In about an hour, we had completed recording and sound editing, and then began adding filters to enhance the final product.

But share it with anybody? No way. As you can see, Aidan convinced me otherwise.

The recording itself leaves plenty of room for improvement and shows me what I need to do to complete the next steps. First, is to buy a higher quality mic to improve the sound, find a better room for recording, and then practice and practice my performance. Hopefully in the coming weeks I will be able to come back on here and post a better version.

If anyone has experience with recording audiobooks that you would like to share, please reach out.

Cheers, Tim
